I think the reading was clearer then book because it’s easy to understand. The author was trying to give us short note about Henrietta’s cells.
I really enjoy reading those reading. I would like to read more same kinds of reading.

Summary- Heals cell becomes very important when they started to began developing the medicine. Hela cells were made by the code name Hela. Her cells was very important for develop the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping and in vitro fertilization. In 1988 Rebecca introduce with Henrietta in her biology class by her teacher. Her teacher only knew Henrietta’s real name and she was black.
Henrietta’s daughter Deborah didn’t know anything about that because she was child when Hela died. Therefore when she found out her mothers cells still a live she was surprised to know it. Furthermore a lot of company made a lot of money by Hela cells even though, her family didn’t get a single penny

pg 136 to 176

In the 1960s scientists say the HeLa cells are becoming strong. It is very resilient and can survive in many situations. They mixed these cells with dead or sick cells. Henrietta's older 2 sons were doing good on their own. Her daughter is pregnant at 16 years old. She becomes a violent mother and beats her child. Joe dropped out of school at 7th grade and is in jail for murder. Gey is working on human genes to clone. Lawrence is the only child that remembers Henrietta. In 1970 Gey gets cancer. He wants to use his cells like hers for cancer. The surgeons think taking the cancer out will kill him. Later, Gey dies.

Impression:
The children of Henrietta are not doing too well overall. Also the scientist are doing injustice with the testing.

Question:
What caused Henrietta's children to become terrible?

pg 93 to 136

After Henrietta's death the largest historical polio epidemic in history took place. Scientists began to make HeLa cells to stop the polio with out crediting Henrietta. Many people believed that the cells came from a woman named Helen Lane. Jerome Syverton wrote letters to Gey to complain about this situation but Gey believed it was protecting Henrietta's identity. After her death, her children were raised by Day and Ethel who hate Henrietta. They do not know what happened to her and are not told. Cootie says during an interview that Henrietta is not talked about in the family. This is because they do not talk about relatives that have pasted away. The HeLa cells are tested on rats and criminals. These criminals are used as lab rats.

Impression:
I was speechless when I hear about the injustice that they does to Henrietta. Also, they treat the criminal very cruel.

Question:
How did they get away with testing on people without law officials say anything?

summarypg (35-66)

According to the book, Henrietta s cells were taken by DR Gey. He took her cells and gave to marry who was worked in his lab with him. They keeps it in lab to let it grows. They did a lot of research of her cells but they didn’t succeed. They was open a lab for research cells when they was graduate from college. They started to collect umbilical cord blood, cow fetuses and chicken blood for research and let cells to grow up. But they weren’t succeeded of it even though they were doing it for several years. When Marry saw Henrietta’s cells was growing, she told it to gey. Then Gey traces it was alive for several years. They were research a lot about it but they weren’t succeeded. Even though Henrietta didn’t know they were doing research with her cells.
After finished her treatments, she went back home and started doing usual family life. She was doing taking care of children’s, work at the tobacco fields, and dance after her children go to sleep. Therefore nobody knew she was sick. After two weeks she felt bad her inside. Therefore she told her cousins, she need to X-ray therapy every weekday for a month.
Author called to Roland Patella who was one of the students of Gey. She shows many reasons for get her number. Finally she found out Henrietta’s daughter, Deborah’s numbers. But she didn’t want to talk about it then she gave her brother number to author. Therefore they also didn’t talk about it. Gey show Henrietta’s cells to scientists, because it will need to search cancer. When she knew her cells will make her immortal, she felt happy, because her cells will help to save the lives of countless people.
I think she was really a kindful woman, because she felt happy to give her cells for countless people. We can’t find out any women like her.

Why they didn’t succeed to research of umbilical cord blood?
